Marcus & Millichap Company (“MMC”) is a diversified real estate holding company with five subsidiary companies operating in a range of real estate investment, development, finance and service businesses: SummerHill Homes (Residential Homebuilding) SummerHill Apartment Communities (Multifamily Development) Pacific Urban Investors (Multifamily Investment) Meridian Property Company (Medical / Professional Office Development) MMC is also the parent company of Essex Property Trust (NYSE: ESS), an apartment REIT which it formed in 1971 and took public in 1994. In the fall of 2013, MMC took its brokerage company, Marcus & Millichap Real Estate Investment Services, public (NYSE: MMI). Mr. George Marcus remains Chairman of both ESS and MMI. Furthermore, MMC is privately held and operates out of its headquarters in Palo Alto, CA.
