JOB SUMMARY
  

Exempt

The purpose of this position is to estimate project costs based on information provided by the Account Executive, Business Development Executive or Project Manager using plans and specifications and written scopes of work.

USE: Energy and Sustainability ONLY


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  


Exercises skills and independent judgment as to the selection of devices, components, layout and integration of system so as to maximize customer experience and profitability. Uses judgment and discretion in the selection and location of hardware an devices relative to labor costs.

Take-off and estimating of projects. Maintains company profit margins in all estimates and proposals.

Gathers all the necessary project information from the following available resources: Scope of Work documents, Project plans and specifications, Existing control system drawings, Site visits and Utilizes, as appropriate, project performance from previous projects of alike type.

Performs layout of project, including system architecture and selection of controllers, devices and software, based on information provided by the scope of work and/or plans and specifications.

Evaluates design alternatives for cost, profitability and system performance.

Participates in project booking meetings, and work in concert with other departments to insure the success and profitability of the project.

Prepares all project bid documents and alternative bid documents.

Prepares all cost estimates in the appropriate estimating tools and adjust costs as necessary.

Continuously develop/implement and report efficiencies in the estimating, design, submittal, purchasing and overall operations process.

Other duties may be assigned.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  


No formal supervisory responsibilities in this position. Provides informal assistance such as technical guidance, and/or training to coworkers. May coordinate and assign tasks to co-workers within a work unit and/or project.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
  

Associates Degree in Air Conditioning Technology or similar degree program.

Bachelor's Degree in HVAC-R or similar degree program preferred.


CERTIFICATES and/or LICENSES

COMMUNICATION SKILLS
  


A valid driver's license with a good driving record for applicable vehicles, without restrictions, or limiting conditions. (Corrective lenses permitted)

Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational and analytical skills. Ability to provide efficient, timely, reliable and courteous service to customers. Ability to effectively present information.

Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition and grammar


FINANCIAL KNOWLEDGE
  


Requires knowledge of financial terms and principles. Ability to calculate intermediate figures such as percentages, discounts, and/or commissions. Conducts basic financial analysis.


REASONING ABILITY
  


Ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret documents. Ability to solve problems involving several options in situations. Requires intermediate analytical and quantitative skills.

Knowledge of arithmetic and algebra.


OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES
  


Proficient knowledge of HVAC/R application engineering, design, sequences of operations and troubleshooting. Must be able to read and understand HVAC/R and process mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics, etc. Capable of making independent decisions based on technical experience as it relates to estimating mechanical systems application and design. Must be able to read and understand wiring diagrams for non HVAC/R type work such as access control and video surveillance. Knowledge of access control systems is preferred.

Knowledge of computer hardware and software including applications. Knowledge of Microsoft Office required. Knowledge of Cosmos and Cognos preferred.


SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY
  


Must be flexible with schedule, including working some nights and holidays when requested. Must be willing to travel including some overnights.

Decisions made with understanding of procedures and company policies to achieve set results and deadlines. Responsible for setting own project deadlines. Errors in judgment may cause short-term impact to co-workers and supervisor.
