McCourt Partners Real Estate (MPRE) is the real estate division of McCourt Global.  MPRE's current real estate projects include 360 Tenth Avenue in New York City; Dallas Design District; the Stage in London and 260 acres of land at Chavez Ravine in Los Angeles.  With offices in New York City and Los Angeles, MPRE is in the process of developing into a stand-alone vertical, real estate holding and development company and is seeking a Development Design Manager with multifamily residential experience, who is meticulously organized, self-motivated, detail-oriented, diligent, with a strong ability to take initiative in addition to following procedures and guidelines.

 

Summary:

Working with the development, marketing, public relations, accounting, finance, and investment teams, the Design Manager will take a lead role in advancing new and existing multi-family projects through the predevelopment phase which includes, programming, feasibility, entitlement, and design, procurement, and construction administration activities. This Los Angeles-based position will focus on multi-family projects directly in the metropolitan region and other nearby west coast cities. The Design Manager will work closely with the Development Manager to direct and manage the design process of the project throughout the development process. The ideal candidate is a design professional with experience in multifamily ground-up projects. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to directly impact MPRE’s new developments as an integral member of the team.
 

What you'll do:
You will be responsible for directing and/or assisting total project design elements including, programming, coordination, and identification and review of competitive projects; scoping work and requesting and finalizing consultant proposals; review of construction documents; gaining regulatory approvals as required; maintaining internal review logs and information; field inspections of certain design elements and problem-solving as required.  As the Design Manager, you'll work closely with the Project Development Manager and Development Director, and others including financial, marketing, public relations, partners, construction personnel, regulators, and other internal and external team members.

  • Assist the finance & investment teams to program, schedule, and budget new multifamily development projects.
  • Perform market research and provide analysis of interiors, materials, and amenities of similar competitive product types.
  • Based on underwriting goals, establish, and document a comprehensive project program and basis of design strategy to inform the design team.
  • Review and recommend appropriate design and engineering teams suited for the targeted project type and goals.
  • Develop scopes of work/Request of Proposals, evaluate proposals and procure the selected design and engineering professionals for the project.
  • Manage the design process from the concept phase through construction completion.
  • Collaborate with the entire development team for all design-related responsibilities.
  • Manage the design phase of the entitlement, documentation, and construction activities alongside the Development & Project Managers, internal and external Legal, Marketing, and Public Relations professionals of new multifamily development projects.
  • Participate in the construction administration process, attend meetings, site visits, and review submittals to ensure design team performance and compliance.
  • Ability to analyze, coordinate and interpret construction documents, including but not limited to Architectural, Interiors, Landscape, Structural Electrical and Mechanical disciplines to achieve the most efficient solution for the intended program and performance.
  • Experienced to effectively coordinate across all disciplines (design, engineering and specialty consultants) to ensure the design scope is appropriately documented and procured to limit project cost overruns.
  • Strong project management skills, results-driven, able to manage several different deadlines across workstreams.
  • Ability to be a self-starter, work effectively in a small team and contribute to areas beyond the direct scope of responsibility.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with internal teams, consultants, contractors and stakeholders.
  • Coordinate internal reviews; maintain project status information/logs; schedule and organize internal and external workflow.
  • Provide design-related information to and communicate with relevant project team members including the Development team and Construction Personnel; Consultants and other groups/individuals.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.

What you'll bring: 

  • An accredited bachelor’s degree in Architecture or related discipline.
  • California Architectural State Licensure is preferred but not required.
  • 5 - 7 years of relevant experience; 10 years preferred of directly performing multifamily residential project architect design and technical services in an architectural office. 
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in multifamily building type including residential layouts, amenities design and planning, parking strategies, Type 1 and Type 3 construction assemblies, and limitations. 
  • Knowledge and experience with Los Angeles City zoning regulations and the department of planning entitlement process. Working knowledge of IBC, FHA, ANSI, and relevant code requirements typical for multi-family projects. 
  • Knowledge of City and County governments and state health departments regarding the review and approval process for regulatory submittals.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook; knowledge of Microsoft Project, AutoCAD, Revit, BIM360, Adobe Suite, Bluebeam and Sketch Up or related software a plus
