Description

Position: Director of Real Estate and Development

Matter Real Estate is a growing, entrepreneurial real estate advisory and owner’s representative firm based in Manhattan. Matter is currently pursuing its own real estate development projects in New York City and plans to grow its development platform significantly over the next several years.

We are a small, hard-working group on a mission to build a multi-disciplinary team of exceptional professionals to help our clients execute complex real estate projects. We specialize in assisting mission-oriented organizations and property owners to successfully plan and effectively build space that is highly functional and economical.

We are looking to add someone who is self-motivated, cares deeply about the quality of their work and is driven to take on “stretch” assignments. We believe that real estate is not just in the pro forma but exists as a place and thing – therefore, having a passion for design and construction is essential to succeed at our firm. The ideal candidate has an excellent track record of accomplishment, an exceptional work ethic and a desire to learn and grow.

Required Education and Experience

We are searching for a candidate who is ready to take the next step in their career by becoming a leader at our firm. We welcome candidates looking to broaden their professional horizons. You will be asked to wear many hats and be given an opportunity to gain exposure to multiple aspects of our business.

This position requires a bachelor’s degree in business, architecture, engineering or a related field and at least five years of real estate experience in New York City. Previous work experience should demonstrate your knowledge of the real estate development process in New York City. If you have a track record of entrepreneurship, or taking the initiative at work, you are likely a good fit for this position.

The position requires strong written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency in MS Office is a must (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel), while proficiency in Adobe Create Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop) is a plus. The applicant must have strong attention to detail, organizational, and time management skills to effectively juggle schedules and business critical items while also being competent in decision-making and problem-solving

Summary of Responsibilities

The Director of Real Estate and Development will work closely with the firm’s Principal to manage the team and to ensure we have systems in place to effectively grow the firm. While responsibilities will be mostly real estate related, we expect the selected candidate to work with the Principal to oversee the business, which includes managing daily operations, business development, budgets, and HR needs, etc.

Detailed Responsibilities

The selected candidate will work in a team environment to execute necessary tasks. We don’t expect the selected candidate to have experience in all facets of the role; instead, we expect you to have the relevant foundational skills, tenacity, and diligence to master these skills “on the job”. Some of the specific responsibilities include:

Summary of Real Estate Responsibilities

  • Complete feasibility analyses
  • Lead project team formation for each project
  • Manage site searches to identify leasing and acquisition opportunities
  • Support financing of selected property
  • Work collaboratively with architects and engineers to advance pre-development and design
  • Manage general contractors

Summary of Firm-Wide Responsibilities

  • Help define the growth objectives of our organization and define a corresponding business development strategy
  • Design and implement business strategies, plans and procedures
  • Oversee company daily operations (HR, Operations, etc.)
  • Participate in project management and administrative organization, scheduling, planning, and a variety of projects
  • Represent the firm with clients, investors, and business partners
  • Lead administrative tasks, calendar, and email management
  • Foster a success-oriented, accountable environment within the company

Additional Information

  • Our office is located at 12 East 49th Street, New York, NY 10017
  • Matter Real Estate offers competitive compensation and benefits
  • Please submit a cover letter specifically describing how your experience relates to this position, and why you believe you would be a good fit for this role

We look forward to hearing from you.
