SUMMARY

 

Reporting to the Director, Interior Design & Project Services, the Manager, Interior Design is responsible for overseeing the interior design and architectural technology team in all aspects of management. They will lead projects by assigning resources, distributing work, developing plans & forecasts according to client needs and specifications and with consideration to factors such as cost, budget, timelines, environment, structural impact and limitations. Accountabilities include business development, client relationship management, employee staffing and ongoing financial management of their assigned Interior Design consulting practice area.

 

 

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists with RFP bid document submissions and works through business development initiatives, as required
  • Support corporate marketing and business development activities in articulating Interior Design capabilities and client benefits through presentations to client groups or written RFP responses
  • Develop new capabilities (offerings) aligned with targeted client segments to enhance business development success
  • Work with Director, Interior Design and the entire Workplace Solutions Management Team to understand client issues, challenges and opportunities and to facilitate, propose and deliver innovative solutions.
  • Collaborate with other BGIS Lines of Business to develop effective joint efforts or leverage other LOB resources and/or initiatives to promote Interior Design solutions for our clients
  • Manage Staff productivity through appropriate labour planning and resource leveling
  • Manager work quality and standards on an ongoing basis
  • Manage Team morale and employee development through the BGIS Optimizer process and ESAT program.
  • Manage Start Up and Close Out transition processes for new assignments
  • Develop skill gap analysis for the group and plan for growth of department
  • Support interior design activities including project work, specification writing, tender drawing creation, renderings, contractor management, deficiency identification and problem solving, and interfacing with other Workplace Solutions teams as required
  • Oversee the development of material cost estimates, project specifications and tender documents, including permit drawings and applications. Creates schedules while monitoring progress against timelines
  • Review and assign resources as required to meet schedule, budget and technical needs; actively seek additional services to benefit the client and BGIS; strive to ensure that projects are started with adequate lead time to complete within client time parameters and to meet BGIS and team needs with respect to work-loading and overall financial considerations
  • Performs work with minimum supervision, and work is assigned in terms of technical objectives.
  • Provides support, guidance and production assurance for complex or urgent problems
  • Makes recommendations or decisions on interior design, application of standards and process improvements in line with client needs and requirements
  • Takes responsibility for your individual and the team's results
  • Oversees and supports senior acting as the first point of contact
  • Complies with all regulatory, environmental, health and safety requirements
  • Manages expectations and needs of client user groups without compromising client or BGIS objectives
  • Incorporates sustainable practices, where practical, into project delivery, in accordance with company processes.
  • Supports management on large and/or unique assignments as required
  • Attends internal and external team meetings and provides status updates as required
  • Provides management oversight to team members and provides coaching and mentoring in related areas of expertise
  • Other duties as assigned

     

    MINIMUM EDUCATION:  University graduation or professional certification (e.g. BID, NCIDQ, P. Eng, CMA, CGA or equivalent courses)

     

    JOB-RELATED EXPERIENCE:  More than ten years; 3-5 years leading a team

     

    KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • Interior design and documentation expertise
  • Awareness of building issues, building and safety codes, the range of relevant products and materials, ergonomics, LEED, Bill 124 and applicable industry standards and regulations
  • Proven cost estimating and project specification writing abilities
  • Proficient with AutoCAD and related software; MS Project, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Strong organizational, time management and multi-tasking abilities
  • Strong client service skills with ability to manage client expectations
  • Proven problem solving and analytical skills
  • Proactive and self-driven
  • Superior people management skills
  • Strong Estimating skills to develop high level project budgets
  • Strong skills in developing internal reporting systems, benchmarking and target setting
  • Knowledge and experience related to industry standards
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills
  • Excellent communication skills and influencing ability. Comfortable and at ease in a lead presentation role
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Understanding of ISO documentation standards
  • Strong project management skills
