The Director/ Senior Director, Awards will be responsible for overseeing the entire portfolio of ULI awards and competitions, including — but not limited to — the ULI Hines Student Competition, the J.C. Nichols Prize for Visionaries in Urban Development, the ULI Global Awards for Excellence program, the ULI Urban Open Space Award program, the Jack Kemp Excellence in Affordable and Workforce Housing Awards, and the Robert C. Larson Housing Policy Leadership Awards. The Director/ Senior Director, Awards also provides strategic direction for any additional awards programs that are developed internally and through District Councils. He/ she will be responsible for coordinating research and managing products that are an outgrowth of awards and competitions, as well as supporting related events and partnerships.

 

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for all aspects of the ULI Hines Student Competition—from choosing the site to developing the brief to working with the jury. Responsible for all print and web material related to the competition, overseeing the application process, organizing jury meetings, working with logistics associate to ensure appropriate competition day preparations, and working with the marketing and strategic communication staff.
  • Manages the day-to-day responsibilities of the ULI Urban Open Space Award, and the ULI Global Awards for Excellence cycles. Duties include managing the application process, organizing jury meetings and award ceremonies, overseeing the preparation of briefing materials, contracting with outside vendors for award procurement and video production, support marketing and promotion, developing programming for ULI national meetings that features the projects and issues from the various awards programs; and writing and production of yearly awards book(s) as well as other related knowledge products when applicable.
  • Provides strategic direction and other assistance as needed for awards programs that are developed and managed by other centers (such as the Kemp and Larson awards) and any new programs developed.
  • Works with the District Councils and other ULI groups as needed to provide strategic direction for the development and implementation of new or existing awards programs.

Develops a process for cataloguing the historical information for all the awards programs at ULI—including history of winners, images, and jury data.

  • Oversees the development and production of ULI books and materials developed that are related to the awards and competition programs. Duties could include writing original content, editing manuscripts, and overseeing the copy editing, layout, and printing of ULI publications.
  • Oversees the JC Nichols Prize for Visionaries in Urban Development. Duties include supporting the Management Committee and Jury groups, preparing briefings and support documentation, monitoring and curating the process of nominations, support of laureate recognition, and coordination with other ULI department of the different associated events.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: (If applicable)

  • Ability to manage an Associate staff member. 

EXPERIENCE:

  • Seven to ten years of experience in the fields of landscape architecture, urban planning, real estate, urban development, or related field.
  • Knowledge of and experience in landscape architecture, urban planning, real estate development, and general urban issues.
  • Ability to work independently and tackle new topics through research and collaboration with experts in the field.
  • Ability to organize and refine awards processes and procedures, and work with legacy intake system --working with large quantities of on-line applications and submissions, tracking and disseminating submissions to jurors in a short amount of time.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with senior staff, Key Leaders, and ULI Members.
  • Ability to build relationships internally across ULI departments and externally with members.
  • Familiarity working with files in layout, image editing, and visual presentations.
  • Familiarity with digital content management systems and publications.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Ability to manage several projects at once, adhering to strict published deadlines.
  • Ability to push programs forward with a sense of resiliency.

EDUCATION:

 

  • Master’s degree in real estate, landscape architecture, urban planning, public administration, or related degree.
