JOB SUMMARY  

 

The Accountant will record and perform analysis of transactions; identify accounting issues; coordinate and implement resolutions; work successfully and efficiently in a team environment; and provide accounting support to Senior Accountant.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Perform basic transactional review for data integrity and apply GAAP for revenue recognition and compliance processing.

 

Prepare and/or review a variety of system-generated, routine and ad hoc financial reports for management and other internal customers, as needed.

 

Prepare monthly recurring journal entries and adjusting journal entries, as needed.

 

Review, document and develop as necessary operating procedures and internal control processes. Analyze current processes for added value and improved efficiency.

 

Interface with other departments to gather information and to review and resolve outstanding accounting issues to ensure proper accounting.  Recognize and analyze potential issues and/or conflicts and recommend corrective action to minimize issues.

 

Respond to routine and non-routine inquiries from field office personnel, sales professionals and their support staff, other departments and colleagues.

 

Research open accounts receivable and perform due diligence in conjunction with field and Senior Accountant to clear old balances. Research and resolve unidentified cash receipts.

 

Work in unison with a Senior Accountant to accomplish a series of daily, weekly, monthly, and annual tasks and meet associated deadlines.

 

Evaluate and adhere to internal accounting policies and procedures.

 

Handle special projects as assigned.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  

No formal supervisory responsibilities in this position. May provide informal assistance such as technical guidance, and/or training to coworkers. May coordinate and assign tasks to co-workers within a work unit and/or project. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education/Experience - Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance from a four-year college or university, preferably with 2+ year experience in revenue accounting, deferred compensation issues, and other transactions outside the course of core operations.

 

Ability to read, analyze and interpret financial reports and business documents and to respond to inquiries or complaints from internal customers or management. 

 

Ability to effectively present information to and respond to questions from groups of managers or other internal customers.

 

Ability to effectively respond, verbally or in writing to sensitive issues, inquiries or complaints. 

 

Requires a high level of commitment to customer service with co-workers, managers and other internal customers.

 

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. 

 

Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions in written or graphical form.  Requires intermediate analytical and quantitative skills.  Knowledge of financial terms and principles.  

 

Ability to work well under pressure with a proactive approach to unusual occurrences.  Requires excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and openness to new ideas and procedures. 

 

Ability to perform multiple special requests, with varying deadlines, while maintaining routine workload demands and deadlines. Requires strong time management skills in an effort to re-prioritize assigned tasks at any moment.

 

Ability to follow through, complete and accept ownership of all projects and tasks.  

 

Ability to work independently.

 

Willingness to help cover workload when other team members are absent.

 

Must be computer literate and have a very strong or intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel. Ability to work with financial systems; PeopleSoft experience a plus+.  Knowledge of real estate service industry and terminology preferred.
