Overview:

 

Laurel Street is a mixed income residential development company that focuses on providing high quality housing for working families and seniors of all income levels. Laurel Street is a growing, entrepreneurial organization with a development portfolio that includes over 2,500 units valued at over $325 million. Laurel Street seeks to hire a Development Associate to expand our development capacity in the Southeast.

 

The Development Associate will work with Development Managers and the SVP of Development on all aspects of the real estate development process. The ideal candidate will possess some understanding of real estate development, including affordable and mixed income housing projects.

 

Job Responsibilities:

 

  • Work with development team on day to day project management which includes participating in the project’s financial structuring and due diligence process along with the coordination of design, construction and leasing consultants.
  • Learn all aspects of the development process from project conceptualization through construction completion and stabilization. As the Associate becomes more experienced, his or her responsibilities will evolve. Specific assignments may include:
    • Model financial assumptions provided by more senior members of the development team and eventually establish initial development budgets that align with the development concept
    • Conduct due diligence for the development including site evaluations, entitlements and local ordinance regulations
    • Work with development team to prepare responses to requests for proposals (RFPs) and presentations for community meetings
    • Work with development team to manage the design and permitting process
    • Work with construction management team to track construction costs, schedules and changes
    • Work with asset management team to track marketing and leasing plans, schedules and stabilization
  • Occasional same day or overnight travel will be required.

 

Education/Experience and Ideal Candidate Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred, in an analytical or real estate development related field (e.g. engineering, architecture, urban planning, construction, finance, law)
  • 2+ years’ experience in a field that develops critical thinking, problem solving and project management skills such as finance, accounting, engineering, planning, etc.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to work with others in a team environment
  • Experience with financial modeling preferred
  • Strong computer skills, including significant experience with Excel and proficiency with other programs in Microsoft Office or other graphic design programs
  • Strong organizational skills, problem solving ability and attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • High level of personal integrity and alignment with company values
