Associate / Senior Associate / Associate Vice President

A prominent California based commercial real estate bridge lender seeks an Associate / Senior Associate / Associate Vice President to join the originations team.  The firm is a privately held direct balance sheet lender focusing on bridge loans on commercial real estate in the metro and coastal submarkets of California with $1.2 billion in senior liens held on balance sheet.  With nearly $500 million in originations in 2021 and on track to double this volume in 2022, this job provides the candidate a phenomenal opportunity to learn, grow, and excel in the world of real estate finance and development.  The bridge lending platform lends on all major property types in various stages including in both ground up development and “value-add” projects providing candidates a unique opportunity to directly witness best practices across a wide spectrum of real estate projects in multiple markets all over the state of California. 

Responsibilities

• Evaluate inbound bridge loan opportunities including reviewing business plans, underwriting property level valuations, researching sales and rent comparables, stress testing debt service coverages, and coordinating borrower diligence. 
• Using MS Excel, generate financial pro forma projections including cash flow models and discounted cash flow analysis for all major property types (experience with ground up development of multifamily / single family housing and value-add hotels preferred)
• Research, analyze, and develop strategies for originations outreach including identifying future lending opportunities such as tranches of maturing debt in the horizon as well as identifying potential new borrowers
• Monitor and track commercial real estate capital market activities in order to better inform the originations team on the pulse of the marketplace
• Assist in promoting the platform to the marketplace including digital, social and print media platforms
• Assist in loan portfolio management including analyzing high level portfolio metrics and improve management efficiencies
• Assist in asset management and loan servicing tasks acting as a liaison between the originations and servicing teams
• Undertake ad hoc initiatives and projects on behalf the senior mgmt of the firm
• Candidates will be expected to work 5 days a week in an office environment putting in 45+ hours per week

Qualifications

• 2-5 years experience in similar analyst / senior analyst roles ideally in banking, debt funds, or mortgage brokering environment
• Proficiency in Microsoft products including Excel, Powerpoint, Word, and Teams
• Seeking candidates with meaningful experience with underwriting/investing/managing ground up multifamily and/or single family development, value-add multifamily, value-add hotels, industrial, office, and/or retail product types 
• Ideal candidates will have a deep understanding of California’s metro and coastal submarkets
• Proactive and positive can-do attitude with a natural drive towards curiosity and learning
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• The ability to work in a fast-paced work environment to meet tight timelines and handle a multitudes of responsibilities
